Neologism refers to the process of creating new words in a language, a phenomenon not bound by rigid linguistic rules but rather shaped by the creative intervention of authors and speakers. This process can manifest in various forms: the invention of entirely new words, derivation from existing terms, borrowing from other languages, abbreviation and clipping, blending of word parts, coinage through prefixes and suffixes, as well as semantic and orthographic deviations. The central outcome of these processes is the expansion of a language’s lexicon, keeping it dynamic, vibrant, and expressive. Thus, neologism not only revitalizes language but also strengthens literary texts at semantic and stylistic levels. In Urdu fiction, particularly in the works of Intizar Hussain and his contemporaries, neologism has been employed to broaden narrative expression and to enrich linguistic possibilities. The paper is based on the study of neology in Intizar Hussain’s Novels.
