Abstract

Wheat requires substantial amounts of nitrogen to thrive, but this nutrient is prone to leaching and volatility, and its cost has surged recently. To mitigate nitrogen losses and boost efficiency, an experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Farm of Bacha Khan University in Charsadda from 2019 to 2021. The study employed a Randomized Complete Block design with split plot arrangements, testing three wheat varieties (Pirsabak-2015, Faisalabad 2008, and Aass 2011) under three nitrogen sources (Urea + DAP, Zinc-coated Urea + DAP, and Urea + Zinc-coated Urea + DAP) and two application methods (broadcast and placement). The results showed that the impact of variety, application method, and nitrogen source on wheat yield components was significant. Aass 2011 and Pirsabak 2015 outperformed Faisalabad 2008, with placement application of Urea + Zinc-coated Urea + DAP yielding the best results. Conversely, Zinc-coated Urea + DAP did not enhance yield parameters, regardless of application method. Placement application proved superior to broadcast application in enhancing wheat yield components. The study recommends cultivating Aass 2011 and Pirsabak 2015 with placement application of either Urea + Zinc-coated Urea + DAP or Urea + DAP to increase wheat yields.
